Hello,
Got out on the Long Reach section of the Rideau for a few hours after work yesterday. As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm focusing on getting more proficient with jigs this year so that's all I fished with last night.
I started fishing the weed edges from around Kemptville Creek up to Pirate's Cove Marina without much luck. Had a few "thumps" but that's about it. I then decided to head in to Hurst Marina area and that's where I started hitting them. I was pitching to docks, boats, etc. and got several nice bass and, to my surprise, several decent pike as well. I lost a few jigs to what seemed to be pike, and got a few of them in the boat. Biggest one was about 4-5lbs with a nice chunk taken out of it from something bigger. I was hitting the pike under docks and in shallow pads and weeds. It was getting on in the evening so they must have come up from the deeper water to feed. At one point, I hooked onto something under a dock in about 5 feet of water and it went straight under the boat, peeled a bunch of line, and then came unbuttoned. I didn't see it but it was large and it sure wasn't a bass.
I fished a 1/2 oz. brown/black Booyah Boo jig with a 4 inch green pumpkin Powerbait Chigger Craw as a trailer. Had a good time and it was a beautiful evening.
Cheers!

Gotta love the Booyah Boo jigs. One of my personal favourites. Peter
