Hey Folks, Decided to get out on my home body of water Big Rideau lake on Saturday July the 9th and see what I could come up with. Not sure if some of you will remember but last fall I spent every opportunity I could on the lake and the only technique I used was a drop shot rig. I wanted to see if I all of the work paid off for me and I went out for some smallies with a drop shot rig, flippin jigs and shakey head jigs. I found smallies in the 20-30 ft range using all 3 baits. The biggest one just under 4 lbs was caught once again on a Xzone ( formally StrikeZone Baits) Slammer using an Okuma EVx 7'0" medium spinning rod combined with an Okuma Trio spinning. Spooled with 8 lbs P-Line Fluorcarbon line. Moved in shallower to see if I could find some largemouth using a flipping jig Started throwing the 3/4 oz Booyah Boo flippin jig on an Okuma EVx 7.6 heavy action flipping stick spooled with 50 lbs P-Line spectrex. No monsters but lots in to 2-3 lbs range. The water is warm and very clear. So go out and enjoy the great outdoors. Pete

Good info.
I'm going to be heading out this coming weekend. Not sure where yet...so many choices in the Ottawa area, I love it! May try Big Rideau.
Cheers!
