Hi Jeremy,
Yeah, that's about right. I've also seen them with more of a green tinge to them, and even a greyish, purpleish tinge to them in the Detroit River. Always a white belly though. Where have you seen them? So far, I've only seen them in the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence.

Hey Gary, On the St. Lawrence we were shore fishing and the kids and I must have caught 12 of them.(Doing are part to get rid of them , they make good garden fertilizer ;D). the size of them varied from about 2in to 4in. Just read an interesting article why them seem to spread so quickly, there is this smaller male(one third the size of the larger male) that slips in without having to fight the larger male for spawning rights. The levels of there hormones are actually higher than the larger males making the success of the nest much higher Has anyone seem them bigger? One good thing though smallmouth seem to be bigger than ever ;D Blessings, Jeremy

Jeremy,
I haven't seen them much bigger than that, but they sure are prevalent in the St. Lawrence now. And yes, the smallies are getting big and fat on them.
Cheers!
