Hi All,
Thought I'd head down for the Section 20 pike/walleye opener on Lake St. Francis this past Saturday and had a good day of fishing...just not for what I was expecting.
I got to Raisin River Marine about mid-morning sometime and launched the boat for the first time this year. I was going to fish the south side of the Hwy. 2 bridge at the mouth of the Raisin River and then go poke around on the St. Lawrence. Well, the wind was at 15-20 MPH and the St. Lawrence was looking angry and cold so I decided to stay at the mouth of the Raisin as there is normally good pike and walleye to be had there. Well, not a pike was to be seen and I couldn't keep the largemouth off my hook. So, I decided not to bother that area and headed up the Raisin River, north of the Hwy. 2 bridge. Well, that area is section 18 and not open until this coming Saturday so I parked the boat at a dock, threw out a hook with a live worm on it, and proceeded to catch bullheads to my heart's content. I was getting them one after the other in the middle of the day. I started throwing them back after I figured I had a dozen or so in the livewell to take home for a feast. Hooked onto what I figured was a couple carp as well...who took my light bullhead rig and made quick work of it. I had no say in where those puppies were going and, needless to say, did not get them in the boat.
So, didn't get what I went to get, but still came home with a great feed of fish and had a fun day of catching them. If you're looking for some hot bullhead action head to Raisin River Marine, sit under the bridge there or on one of their docks, and have at it.
Cheers!
