Hey Guys and Gals,
Who all wet a line on the week end? My little men and I caught a bucket load of Crappies on the week end ;D The biggest was just over 1.25lbs. Between the four of us we caught about 75 or 80 and brought a nice mess of them home for eating.
Question for you all How do you like to cook your fish or share a recipe with us all?
God bless, Jeremy

Hey Jeremy:
It was an amazing weekend for crappie fishing. I went to Manotick bait to pick up a liscense for my dad(unfourtunately they didnt have any) and they told us where to go. It was amazing service, and they put me on the fish. I was fishing across from Hurst Marina in the end of a warm bay of a thin creeky dock. I fished there for 2 hours and I was catching a crappie every cast. Dad was very jealous hehe. I also caught a few sunfish and some golden shiners-a first for me. I had a trio of 3 weightless chartreuse marabou leeches. The crappie were only 6-12 inches under the surface.
It was a great way to start off the season, and hopefully I can get back there soon and have my first ever taste of crappie meat.
mike-Ps they are supposed to be getting back to us about the team very soon!

Sounds like you guys had a great time fishing.. Unfortuantely, I wasn't able to get out at all this weekend. Looks like I might be able to get out at all until the weekend of the 5th. Have to wait and see what happens. Jeremy, to answer your question about cooking crappie. Here is my little way of preparing and cooking them. After I fillet them, I like to put them in a bowl of milk that contains onions and garlic. I let them sit over night in the fridge. Next evening, crunch up some rice crispies in a freezer bag and them take the fillets and get them covered with the mix. Cook them in a pan of hot oil. That's the way I like them Pete

Hi Folks, Was out on the Rideau today, trying to find some crappie. I've never done much fishing for them but since they're pretty much all that's in season now, besides a few other tasty species, I thought I'd try. Didn't have much luck and caught more perch. If anyone has any suggestions on some good crappies spots, I'd love to hear 'em. I've been anxious to have a good feed of them and I would love to try Pete's recipe, sounds YUMMY!! In fact, I tried awful close to where Yungflyfisher said he was fishing. Were you way back in that bay YFF, or were you out near the main river on that skinny dock near the club house? I was also out on the St. Lawrence, out of Gananoque, fishing for bullhead and perch Sunday. Had a good day and caught a good feed of both. Cheers! Gary

Hey Gary,
I don't know where Yff was fishing but back in the bay can be good and also out at the mouth of it on the left there is a brush pile and on the other side there is a wood wall. I have been successful on both area's.
This time of year concentrate on the creek mouths, locks and any shallow wood area's you can find. If you go up by Burritts as far as you can go past the locks. The rocky shore lines hold a lot of Crappies.
I noticed on the bunch I caught they are eating a lot of shrimp and scuds. Small dark grubs and tubes should work. I also caught quite a few on curly tail minnows black back gold sides 2.5"long very skinny minnows only about a 1/4" wide. The golden shiner fry are already around.
Hope this helps you?
God Bless, Jeremy

Hey Gary, I was fishing the skinny dock near the clubhouse. I am not sure how the bite is now, but I am hoping I can find out this weekend. I suspect the bluegill and pumpkinseed are more agressive now, so it may be tougher. Last weekend there were tonnes of bluegill there, they just weren't moving for anything. I'm fine with that though, and it was a treat catching all the crappie.

Thanks for the info guys. When does the crappie bite start to slow down, season-wise?
