Hi Gang I was just sitting at my bench making up jig skirts. I'm very particular about them so I get what I want I make my own. Here's how particular I am. I have a metal flake blue skirt I use but I also want 45strands of blue and two strands of lime green running down both sides not more not less, exact My first question is this: Are any of you as particular about your jigs ?? The colour of jigs I like to use are: Black head > Black/blue tip skirt (55 strand and 85 strand ) Black head > Black gold flake skirt ( 60 strand) Black head > Black/ chart. tip skirt (55 strand) Brown head > Craw skirt (6amber strands, 15pumpkin strands,8 black with orange flake strands,6 green pumpkin and to top it off 15 strands brown with orange metal flake) Brown head > Pumpkin/ orange tip skirt (55 strand) Flourescent Yellow head > Blue silver metal flake skirt 45 strands, 2 strands lime green running down side. sometimes don't use lime green. My second question is this: What colour of jigs do you all use? You know what the added bonus to this is, when you make your own skirts it costs only pennies to make a skirt? Jeremy

Hey Jeremy, That's not being particular....that's an obsession I have been wanting to start making my own baits now for about 3 years and for some reason I never have the chance nor the time to start. I mostly use a black and blue flippin jig. As far as the skirt goes I may add a little red to it but other than that I really don't do too much with it. However, I would like to see your setup some day, perhaps even grab some ideas on setting an area up like yours. As I mentioned I want to start making my own. Now I have a question for you. I'm not sure if I should start a new thread of just add to this one but here it goes. With the propsed lead ban, what are you going to do with the lead heads??? Do you have a supplier that makes tungsten heads?? Pete

Pete I have put all my lead into a box and will turn it into the ministry of natural resources. At the carp show the Ministry had a booth set up to accept lead weights etc. Pete I no longer use lead of any sort I made the change to get the jump on this cause I think you will see a shortange when the change happens. Tungston jigs are at a premium right now and are very expensive but I believe the price will come down as they become more popular One of the excepted alternatives is also Bismith not quite as expensive if you go to the Ministry site you will see what is recommended. I know someone will say there are traces of arsnic in bismith, but think of it this way there is arsnic in apple seeds The ministry has deemed it as safe as the traces are so small and personally I'm not eating them Suppliers are out there and I have found one in Ottawa that has a good price on jig heads. He is still developing and i am discussing with him on some of his jig designs to hook ratio's. When I get a more solid base of suppliers I will be glad to share them with you all. You get better prices when you buy in bulk so maybe we all can go in on an order Till later, Jeremy
