Laydowns have to be one of my favourite types of cover to fish. Read the article on laydowns in the article section of the main web page. Pete

Pete Good article this is also one of my fav's to fish ;D This zone is normally Big fish zone. Here's were our styles and thoughts are different.I fish the outside as you but when its time to go inside I go light bait first and try to take the fish out of the tops of the structure. Jeremy

Good point Jeremy. I find that even with the heavier bait if the bass are agressive, they will hit it as soon as it hits the water. However, I have found the bigger ones to be down tight to the cover. Either way, both methods will work. One of the good things about fishing is there really is no right or wrong way to catch bass. It really all depends on them (the bass). If they want it they will take it and if they don't.....it's a long day on the water. Pete

Awesome artcile pete!!
I have a large poplar trunk beside my cottage...it has a steep drop-off to a nice bed of weeds. It yields a nice bass every summer, but it's not very consistent. Need to find away to keep the hordes of rock bass off my fly.
It's very interstesting snorleling around the log....helped me find where the bass go without having to fish through 30 rock bass. My bait of choice is simple....a crawfish wooly bugger with black rubber legs....I put a strand of heavy mono to make it resistant to snags
Thanks for the article....the diagram of boat positioning and spots to cast to first was exeptionally helpful.
