Any tips on how to change the free spool spring in Abu 4600c3 and 5500C3 reels? I am intimidated by the taking the gear box apart to get at it.

Marc I have used Abu Garcia for years and still not brave enough to take them apart. My advice, if your asking take it to a repair depot. In the end it will be cheaper Jeremy

Hi Marc, they are intimidating, but if you have the new springs and I would like to sit with you and go over the process, do you have the schematics as well, however Darrell is having some problems with one of his and we have made arrangements with a warranty shop that would also take care of your problem a simple cleaning for 10 bucks and replacing the springs for another 12 bucks and all work is garunteed Let me know Reel to Reel is pretty good as well Tony G. Lorenzo seeing as i was the one who told you about deep cycles all around and I did tell you at that time that your alternator cannot tell the difference between a deep cycle and a marine cranking battery they still charge them at the same rate and if you don't have an ampmeter in your dash you can get it from your fish [ugh ] finder. As to using a deep cycle for a cranking battery again make sure that it has the necessary cranking amps that your motor requires to start it the reserve comes into play as well. 27 series and 31 series make a big difference The bottom line is cranking batteries don't care much for being drained but deep cycle almost thrive on it. Tony G.
