To me trailer safety is the most important thing to me. I've just finished taking my bearings out and cleaning them. I put my trailer up on blocks for the winter. Before I take it off the blocks I always take the wheels off and check the bearings and the seals. I competely take out all the old grease and put new in. I believe this is important as I trailer quite a bit through the year and this grease breaks down. Just topping it off is not good enough (in my opinion) grease wears out! Just my tip to keep us safe on the roads! Jeremy

Very good point Jeremy,I myself do the same I put our trailer up on blocks to take all the weight off the springs and axle just like storing a car.I also do the same with the bearings grease is just like oil it breaks down. So many people put a lot of time in getting there boats ready and over look there trailers and correct me if Iam wrong but it only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to do both sides.....

Brian
Your right and it saves you a lot of nightmares, I've seen over the years on my way to tournaments. Seeing different guys stuck on the side of the road due to bearings. Which brings up another point, I keep a spare set with me for both sides just in case.

I was one of those you saw on the side of the road many years ago I tell you all you need is to have it happen to you once and you make sure it would happen again. I also keep a spare set even cotter pins which I seen some forget. Jeremy tell me I think people over look this is mostly do to the bearing buddy people think that if they just keep adding grease they are o.k but most of the time that is where the damage happens like broken seals, what do you think

Brian You are right a lot of guys that use bearing buddies are guilty of this not all though. I use bearing buddies so I can top them up through out the season. Important thing here is that the grease gets changed at the start of the year. I was one of those guys many moons ago also Brian How does the saying go? We learn from our mistakes and them we share it so others don't make the same mistakes ;D Synthetic in the bearings is great, one of the things I have learned about them is this. They run a little hotter so when you get to the ramp let your trailer cool a little longer than you do with regular grease. Most of the problems that guys have with bearings is caused by not letting there trailers cool before putting them in the water, along with not changing the grease. Jeremy
