Pete I think I have your , No I know I have your #1 fan fishing with me ;D Problem is if he does not change the way he is acting at home right now he will not make the next event. It will break my heart if he does not get to fish with me, but he has to learn to respect his parents and not hit/punch etc..etc..etc.. Pray he changes his ways before the next tournament. I need him , he put two of the fish in the livewell at the last tournament. I want to catch a limit each tournament God Bless, Jeremy

Josh is a good kid. He's just excited about fishing. ;D Can you blame him I understand being a parent myself it's hard sometimes but you will do what is best of Josh and the rest will fall into place. Trust me, it usually does. I do pray that he will be there because he along with Kalab and the baby (sorry the name escapes me at the moment) always put a smile on my face. On and off the water.......HEY JOSH!!! The joys of being a parent. Pete

Gidday! How's it going folks? Down at my girlfriend's in PA at the moment, looking forward to fishing the BFL Empire Division event on Cayuga this coming Saturday. Was up at White Lake on the long weekend, Sunday to be specific, and had a wonderful day swimming, boating, fishing. I caught some nice bass and a few small pike. Didn't really fish any specific spots, kind of hard to do that in a rented pontoon boat. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know I popped into the Kars RA Centre on Saturday around 3-3:30PM hoping to catch you guys coming off the water, but I think I was early. There were a bunch of trucks there and some trailers looking like they belonged to bass boats, so I figured you were still out. I had to get on to a visit and dinner with my folks in Winchester so couldn't hang around too long. What time do you guys usually get in off the water during your tournaments? Congratulations on the second place finish Pete! Gary

Hey Gary, Down in PA.....let's be a little more specific....next door to the Bass Pro in Harrisburgh, if I'm not mistaken. Nothing better then having a girlfriend that lives near a bass pro. That's too bad that we missed you but you're right that was early. We get off the water at 4:00. The hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Next tournament is July 16, in Carleton Place on the Mississippi. Good luck on Cayuga. You will have to let us know how it goes. This weekend I'm in Clayton on the St. Lawrence. Thanks... hopefully I'll be able to win of them sometime this season. Pete

Hey Pete Went up to Mississippi Lake to check it out after the Big tournament that was on the water. 85 boats is a lot of boats on this small body of water ( My opinion). It showed in what I saw out there some of the rice beds were pretty badly beat up and some of the beds seemed thin compared to normal. I wonder what this will do to the duck hunting this fall I still managed to catch a couple of fish out of what was left, nothing big 2.5lbs . Tried fishing a couple of area's that I have not fished in 10yrs, did catch a couple of fish some smallmouth between 1.5 and 3 lbs. Looks like it will recover by the time our tournament rolls around, I hope Till then, Jeremy

The rice beds will probably bounce back fine. They are pretty hard to beat up. Mississippi is a good lake and there should be some nice weights this year on it. We will have to wait and see what happens next weekend. Pete

Darn, I was about half an hour, forty-five minutes early. Would have been great to meet you folks, and of course see Pete after nearly 20 years. Ah well...one of these times. Speaking of Mississippi Lake, is it a decent lake for smallmouth? I've not fished the lake since I was a young lad, so basically I've never fished it. Gonna have to go out and try it one of these days. I know it's got lots of largmouth in it, but I've only heard recently about people getting good smallmouth numbers. Speaking of local lakes. Does anyone know where one could get detailed topo/fishing maps of some of the lakes around here? I'm interested in White Lake, Mississippi, Ottawa River, etc. As far as I know the best place to get them is the MNR, but that was years ago. Good luck at 1000 Islands Pete. Are you practicing there before the tourny or are you familiar with the area? Gary

Gary I know you were directing the question to Pete, but I thought I would like to reply to it. Mississippi Lake has some excellent smallmouth fish, but as you know they move around a lot. If you hit it right you can catch 5lber's, many years ago Ottawa Outdoorsman ( Later know as Ottawa Bass) a buddy and myself weighed in 6 smallmouth that weighed 21lbs. Since then I have never seen these big fish back in this area again The biggest problem I have found is these big fish a lot of times are just one or two in an area and you have to pound through the small ones to catch the one or two big ones. Most tournament days there is not enough time to get six of these fish, believe me I have tried it many times. There have been several tournaments over the years that guys have won tournaments with smallmouth but the timing has to be right and 9 times out of ten the largemouth bit is off when this happens. I love smallmouth fishing over largemouth so I have paid the price many times with smaller weights but I will keep trying. ;D Maps MNR is still the best bet, but ther are some good maps available through cottage associations and there are some map organizations out there that have some OK maps. all the best, Jeremy
