Hey guys!! Thank you very much for all of your support. Pennsylvania was an incredible venue for the competition. Our team increased our placement from last year by one place..beating out the Portuguese. The fishing was tough, but not close to as tough as portugal was last year. I placed 40th out of 60 competitors and third on the team. One day before the competition our top rod from last year from BC dropped out last minute. I called our coach, Randy Taylor and I reccomended my main fishing buddy Simon Wells who I have been best friends with since the age of 3. He placed 1st on the team and 11th overall! One of the best finishes by a canadian in world competiton history! The fishing was a lot of fun, and we are planning a return trip. The Little Juniata had excellent fishing, and spring creek was also very good. Fishing creek was no doubt the toughest section in the competition, and I recieved my only blank of the competition on fishing creek. Lake Perez was awful fishing to say the least. Not one trout was caught during the competition. In 3 hours I caught 4 sunfish, one 26 cm yellow perch and one 35 cm largemouth bass landed me in 4th place in the session. The hot flies on the river were: Size 20 bead head zebra midge, size 14 bead head green weenie, size 12 isonychia nymph, size 24 trico spinner, size 10 tungsten czech nymph, and a foam post black klinkhammer as an indicator. My last two sessions were spent on spring creek in chocolate milk water after a rain. Black krystal buggers were the ticket there, and in the afternoon I caught my fish on the infamous green weenie.
I will have a full report very soon, and as soon as it's done I will post it here. It was an awesome competition, and I left pennsylvania as a much better nymph fisherman. Thank you very much for the flies Jeremy. If you would ever like to go fishing name a time and a place and I'll be there! It was great to meet your wife, and your very nice boys Joshua, Issac and Kaleb. The future of youth fly fishing! I hope the picture turned out well!
Mike
