I don't use hooks when pre fishing or if I do I cut off the hook part.

it all depend , if you are fishing 2 weeks prior to or 2 days. Atleast a week prior to I don't think it matters but a few days prior to i makes a big diff. If you are going to fish a few days before bend the hooks or cut them.

When pre fishing the best practice that I have found is to use a large snap swivel instead of a hook. Especially when you are fishing plastics. You can thread the bait through the snap. The bass will hit the bait and will hold on long enough for you to see the bass and as soon as you put more pressure on the fish it will release itself and you haven't punctured the bass in any way. This will also prevent you from cutting hooks unnessarily. Pete

I think it's important not to hook them a few days before the tournament as well, but sometimes you do need to stick them in order to judge the quality of the fish you are on.
