Hey Folks, Yesterday was the opening day for walleye and pike in division 9 & 10. Let us know how you faired out. As for me, I didn't even wet a line. Still working on my honey do list. Almost done so that I will be able to come out and play next weekend. Tell us about your opening day. Pete

Pete, I arrived in Ottawa Wednesday night, bouncing off the walls in anticipation of picking up my new boat on Thursday morning. All went well. I picked it up and headed straight to White Lake to test her out. I couldn't fish for anything worth while, but that wasn't the purpose of the first run anyways. I just wanted to get a feel for the boat, get used to it, etc. Well, as all Ottawa area residents know, we had some lovely (note sarcasm) weather for the latter part of the week and the weekend, so I was able to see how well the boat handled rough conditions, and it did so with ease. She also flies...had her up to 73mph GPS and that wasn't floored. Baby steps... ;D Friday I took the boat to the St. Lawrence, launching out of Morrisburg, to pike fish but ended up just doing some more running around. The St. Lawrence was rough, and again no problems with the boat. Saturday, Tim Wambolt and I went out on White Lake for opening day and managed to catch a few pike and lots of bass. Of course we weren't targeting bass, but they were hitting the inline spinners and spinnerbaits we were throwing for pike. We actually got quite a few bass and all were at least two and a half pounds or a bit more. Very solid, healthy fish. As Andy said, the wind was howlin' on Saturday and White Lake was nasty. I received some excellent practice on working the trolling motor to hold position, etc. Now I'm down at my fiance's in PA, with the boat, and will be testing out some waters this way over the next week or two. I'll let you know what I find. Cheers! Gary

Hey Gary, I'm glad to see that you got your boat out and it's running well. Also glad to hear that you caught some fish. Now that you are in PA. I can just imagine what you will be testing it out on......Test on how many bass you can put in the livewell. Congratulations again on the new boat. Pete

Pete, Have to go just a weeeeeee bit farther south to put any in the livewell at this time of the year. PA has a catch and release season on right now though, until June 16th I think it is. So, I'll be on Blue Marsh Lake tomorrow, the Susquehanna out of Columbia the next day, and Lake Wallenpaupak near Scranton on Saturday...who knows what else in between. Gary

Hey Gary, Sounds like you got the rest of the week all planned out. I'm surprised you're not heading down to Kerr to prefish, don't you have a tournament there next month? Did you make the move to the boater side on the Stren and BFL series? Enjoy the new boat. Show us some pics of all the hawgs that you catch. Pete

Pete,
The Stren Series tournaments are all full but I will try to get in as a boater on an event to event basis. The tournament director told me to talk with him at each event and if there's a boater spot, I can have it. Otherwise, I'll fish it as a co-angler. I'm still going to practice at each event though, and go down to Kerr June 9th for four days practice before the tournament starts on June 14th.
As far as the BFL events go, I have inquired about switching to the boater side, but haven't heard back from FLW on that one yet. Hopefully it won't be a problem.
I was out on Blue Marsh Lake in PA last night and caught a few small ones. The lake is about 1150 acres with no HP restrictions, but 50% of it is no-wake. Apparently it's a great striper and catfish lake, even a few muskie, but I'm told the bass are hard to locate. They were. But what can you do when the lake is so small you can't get maps of it, or even contour markings on the GPS? It was fun though. The lake is close to my fiance's so I'm sure I'll go there some more and eventually figure it out.

That's too bad about the Stren series. They usually fill up fast though. As for the BFL, I can't see them saying no. I don't they have a full field. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your boat. It's great that you have a lake close by you that you can fish whenever you can. Hopefully, we'll see you on the water. Pete
