hey all, I told you all that I'd keep you up to date with my ice fishing so here it is:
Woke up early "6:45" and we were on the ice by 9:00. I split the hut 50/50 with my friend Cam and am now 50$ in the hole. It was well worth it and we were warm all day. Mike (baitcaster)said that they had been catching walleye there all week so we were all quite pumped. Here's a pic of our shack:
Cam had the first fish. A 8' perch. Minnow and jighead. It blends in with his coat so you can barely see him.
a few hours later he caught another about the same size. Not walleye, but fish none the less.
As you all know ice-fishing is a very tiring sport...so i was pigging out on the brownies when my rod started to go down...darn!! It felt like a really nice pike .
Here's my only fish of the day a whopping 7 and a half inch perch
Near the end of we started getting more bites. We misssed 2 on the tip-ups and cam hooked into what seemed like a wallleye.
Nope, but a HUGE perch! This was only 9 oz. Imagine what a 1.5 lb perch would look like!!
Close-up:
the winning perch was a massive 1.42 lbs congrats to the winner!
the biggest walleye was 4.2 lbs. Only 3 were caught all day. That was a bummer because that was our target fish of the day.
The biggest pike was 3.8 lbs.
I didn't go home empty handed..draw prizes were invented for fisherman like me ;D
Still not sure what it does but how could you turn down something with name "batter pro"
had a good day of fishing....but need to do some flyfishing soon. It's surprising how fast 8 hrs can pass in a warm shack with great company.
thanks to baitcasters for a great derby and putting us on fish..thanks to cam's dad for taking us out.
