Hey all, Just wondering if anyone is still fishing/catching fish. From what I know the fish have moved out a little deep for my urban shore fishing spots....and they dont want to rent a boat or go fishing....but just wondering if it would be worth it to try this late in the season for anything-pike,bass crappie ect.. I've heard that it's a good time for muksie...but i'm not sure how to flyfish for them...or if they like flies. any tips would be appreciated, mike mike

Hey YFF, As a matter of fact I went out yesterday with Darryl ( a guy that carries a team in Bass anglers Association ...right Grumpy) Darryl and I launched out of Taylor Park for some late season bass action. There wasn't a lot of people out on the water bass fishing I can tell you that. To answer your question is anyone still fishing.. the answer would be yes still fishing. The still catching part of your question on that particular day I would have to say no. Of all the spots that we hit yesterday the only action that we got was a couple of pickups but when you went to the hook they was nothing there. You can see you line moving but as you would set the hook they were off. They were picking it up ever so gently. We were throwing spinnerbaits, (various weights and blade combinations), crankbaits, senko type baits, flipping jigs, tubes, and just standard 1/4 oz jigs heads with grubs on them. It was the grubs that we got the most action with. We were fishing in water depths ranging from 4 to 20 foot. I thought the key to yesterday was going to be the find the greenest weeds and just work that area methodically and it would produce. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we launched the surface temp was 23.8 F When we loaded the boar at 4:30 the temp was 30.3 F. The water seemed to be warmer as you went closer toward Manotick. All in all it was a great day to be out on the water. We also ran into Jeremy and the boys. They were fishing to Walleye using minnows. Jeremy caught a nice smallmouth but if I remember correctly that was all. I hope Jeremy will be on later to post his days activities later. It was nice seeing the Parker clan (at least 3 of the 6) yesterday. I always enjoy watching the boys fish. If there is anyone else out there still fishing, please let us know how you are making out. Pete

Hi all! Unfortunately, I'm not still fishing. If I had a boat I'd be for sure, but the Everstart Championship was my last tournament of the season and now I have to work my butt off all winter so I can afford next year's tournaments. I've already got cabin fever... Gary

Hey Pete, Muskie Two, Jeremy and Boys Zero. After loosing the Muskie at Becketts, Six lb Test . We want down to the New 16 Bridge we fished till almost dark. Three walleye and a muskie(Muskie took one Walleye). Walleye were in 16 feet of water breaking into 18. Just started catching them and ran out of Minnows. The boys were putting the minnows on themselves for the first time funny thing was every cast they would flick them off and reel in they would only have the head left. We ran out of fuel (Hot chocolate)also and some people were getting cold. We all had fun though this will be the last trip for me till I can walk out on the water (Ice). Can't wait for crappie through the ice. Let you know when they are biting?? Jeremy

Hey Jeremy, Like I said it was nice seeing you and the boys again. Please let me know when they are biting through the ice. I'll be looking forward to that. Like Gary, I have no more tournaments now until next season and I too am getting cabin fever. However, I hope to get out 1 more time before the water stiffens for some walleye. I'll be heading up to Centenial with a buddy of mine. If we make it out, I will let you all know how it goes. Pete

Thank you very much for the updates....unfourtunately i don't think i'll be fishing until april now ....unless I can drag my parents to the fish-hawk petrie ice fishing derby. I have started to tie some flies...just tied 6 crappie flies and worked my butt off painting bass poppers. I'll see if some of my flyfishing buddies will join up here. My brother also flyfishes and I think he'll enjoy it here. Bring on may - Best time of year for walleye, pike, crappie and trout. mike

Yff You hand paint your poppers? I use a spray bomb and stencils I made myself for my patterns. I also will be tying flies this winter , I will tie about 1000 flies this winter for personal use next year. Not as many as I used too! I used to tie commercially and tied anywhere from 5000 to 10000 flies a winter. There was one year I actually had to put my spring flyfishing aside just to tie flies that year I tied 15,000 flies, don't ever want to do this again I do a seminar for Orvis Green Drake every year in Ottawa around February. I try to pick different things every year. One of my loves outside of Bass fishing is Steelhead , I used to make a trip down to Pulaski in January. What an awesome time of year to be wade fishing for steelhead. One time there was this stone fly hatch happened, the little black stone flies where lying dead in the snow on the banks as they hit the cold January air. Anyways I'm getting carried away here, Just wanted to share with you about trying the spray bomb. All the Best, Jeremy

YFF, Yes fishing season is just about over. Especially after seeing the stuff fall down today. Really put a damper on things, that's for sure I am glad that you decided to join the board. I hope that it has been both informative and fun. Tell all of your friends about us. The more people that share their stories, tips, facts etc. the better the board will become. As I mentioned before, if there are enough fly anglers on the board, I can create a separate section if the demand is there. Hope to see you on the ice some where. Pete

jeremy: WOW thats alot of flies .....I'll defininitely attend your seminar..just remind me what the date it in february......there new holland location is a mere 5 minutes from my house ;D. Got a letter today....theyre open...but theyre "grand" opening is on friday and saturday "cake and coffe." I'm glad theyre open....I am a frequent customer there...and Tony/Dino/Vince know how poor me and my brother are..and give us a 5-10% discount on small purchases For the spray paint we've tried it....it does stay on very nicely...but most of the time we paint it with craft paint. pete: There are some great arcticles on this site. Through google it is difficult to find..."found it through link on neatpage".....So maybe you should post it on fish-hawk message board and ask what people think. There are many renegade/baa fisherman that i'm sure would be intrested in the site. mike

YFF, I do post on Fish-hawk. I go under the name hawgwild. I did post on fish-hawl when we started this back in February. I'm sure that if you look for the postings that I did on FH you will see. I'll be honest with you, I am surprised to see a member of FH posting on this board. Thank you for that. Pete

Hey Jeremy, I appreciate it however this site is not in competition with Fish hawk or any other site for that matter. All I meant by my post was that hawk talkers are really loyal to that site. I'm glad to see some hawk talkers coming onto this site and posting. I think that it's great for the fishing community as a whole and that is the intention of this board. Thanks to everyone for the support. Pete

Said that wrong didn't I I'm still on Fish Hawk as a member, It's nice to have different sites to visit. There is quite a cross section of anglers of all types and ages. I meant I really enjoy your site ,along with others that i belong too. The thing I don't like is how some people hide behind handles/names. If you have something to say just say it! Pete the boys and I really enjoy your site ;D Jeremy

I was out on the Ottawa last Sunday but didn't get anything. I found where they where but just couldn't hook up. I'll try again this Sunday if Buckham's Bay isn't frozen.

hey pete,
I do not pledge alleigance to one site. I try to learn as much as I can...and each forum has different things to learn on. To date i am a member on xtremeangling{fun for disses and laughs},fish-hawk,flyanglersonline,hipwader and here. Each site has something different to offer..and to learn
