i am looking for a little advice, or info, in regards to fishing reel selection . i am currently looking to buy a couple of new reels and have come across the new quantum accurist 500 with the flippin switch. i was wondering if anybody has one ,used one, or read reviews on this model. any information would be helpful...

Dr. Wedge, The quantum accurist is a great line of reels. I have 3 of the 501 accurist PT. The 501 is just a left handed model. They fit nicely in your hand. Light weight. You can throw a spinnerbait all day and your hands don't get tired. The anti reverse spool is great when setting the hook. For the price you really can't go wrong with the accurist. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about the flippin switch because I never use that switch for flippin. I just set the magnets to free spool and start flippin. 100 % of the rods and reels that I use during tournaments are Quantum. In my opinion the best equipment for the buck. I hope that it answers some of your questions. I honestly believe that you would be making a great investment by getting those reels. Pete

I do like golfing but it's golf that doesn't like me. I would classify my golfing as military....you know left right left right. I sure do get my money's worth when golfing that's for sure. I just may take you up on that offer. Thanks, Pete

Unfortunately, I can't give you an opinion on those Shimano reels because I don't use them. Nothing against Shimano, I just prefer Quantum However, with that said, I know that there a few members of this board that have blue blood and love Shimano.. Come on fellas answer the man!!! Pete

Dr. Wedge, Hi, and welcome to the board. I use the Quantum reels as well, and I like them alot. I've used many of the modern reels on the market today and I'm most satisfied with the Quantums. As Pete said, they're the most bang for your buck. I have also used various Shimano models and like them as well. In fact the only reason I don't use too many Shimanos these days is that I don't like the centrifugal breaking system they and many other manufacturers employ. I prefer the adjustable dial on the side of the real, like Quantum uses. But there's no doubt, Shimano makes a fine reel and the Castaic is an excellent choice. Gary
