Was out on Mississippi Lake last Thursday and had a good day. Pike were hitting well, especially at the south end of the lake around the islands in the big bay. They seemed to be hanging around the shoals out there and were hitting inline spinners, such as the Mepp's Aglia Long #4, and slower presentations like Zoom Flukes or hard jerkbaits. The pike seem to be getting a bit more active but are still attracted to the slower presentations. They still aren't hitting spinnerbaits aggressively.
Walleye were caught on senkos wacky-rigged and fished in water at least 10-11 feet deep. They were on flats with mostly rock and scattered vegetation.
In the river, by the launch in Carleton Place, you could see nice pike in the shallows sunning themselves. It was a gorgeous day and nice to hook on to some esox lucius.
Cheers!

Hey Gary,
Did you notice if the bluegills and sunnies are in the shallows?
if you want some good fishing for big bluegills this water has it. I've caught them on 3inch tubes and 4in senko's. My favorite way to catch them is on the fly rod. Boys and I have had 100 fish days without counting the ones under 1/2lb.
The best eating too!!! Nothing better than sunnies on the BBQ ;D
All the best,

Hi Jeremy,
I know that Mississippi is an excellent bluegill lake and I was keeping an eye out for them. I saw one bluegill in the shallows this trip. More perch, and plenty of large rock bass. I didn't get right close to shore at any time so the bluegills might be up there. The water temp was around 65F in most areas.
Mmmmm...sunnies on the BBQ. Now you've gone and done it... *rubbing belly*

Good report Gary. thanks for those pointers Jeremy. I've been trying to get out to Mississippi twice in the last 3 weeks and have never made it out. Either truck problems (dropping a drive shaft) or spending a day in hospital because someone sprained her ankle. So I think I have a jinx on Mississippi. If things come in 3 what is the next thing that is going to happen? Mississippi is official taken over the spot as the lake I hate the most. White Lake falls to second. I'm off next week to Lachine QC to pre fish for the Berkley B 1. Let's hope that I have better luck getting there. Pete
