Hey Folks, After a long winter Renegade had it's first qualifying event on Saturday on the Ottawa River in Rockland. After spending 2 long days of pre fishing for this event, Saturday rolled around and it was go time. Pulled up to our first spot and missed a big fish, tried to horse it out of a log and she came unbuttoned. By 11:30 we had 2 fish in the box weighing 1.5 lbs combined. So we decided to move to the main river and fish for smallmouth. That is where we were able to catch 4 more decent sized smallies and cull our smallest fish. We still needed 1 more bit to cull that last small fish and the results would have been different. We ended up with 11.66 lbs minus a .25 lbs penalty to finish with a top 35. That was good enough considering it was the Ottawa River and we never do well on that body of water. The next event is in 2 weeks out of Morrisburg on the mighty St. Lawrence. I want to congratulate Ken Dagenais for another victory on the river. Good job fellas., Pete

Pete,
Top 35 is pretty decent. Good enough to make the Classic if you stay in there all year isn't it?
I'm getting ready this week to head to Lake Champlain. Will be practicing 3 days for the Stren event there next week. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully the wind will be kind to us for the week.
Cheers!
Gary

Hey Gary, It was the hardest 11 + lbs that we ever had to fish for. We only had 2 fish in the box by 11:30. Good luck next week on Champlain. I know that you have been on that body of water lots of times, so you should do well. Yes, let's pray that the winds stay away. Good luck. Pete

Hey Pete: Sounds like a tough day on the water...good work on changing tactics to get fish in the box. We were on the Big Rideau on Saturday with the BAA. I fished with my son Nate and we came in with 3 (yep) fish. He caught two of them so it's the beginning of many future victories over his old man . We finished last I think. Rick D. came in with over 14 on 4 fish--including a 5.99 largie. My non-fishing brother and I fished the SEBO the next day on the same lake and it was tough going again. We had 2 in the well at noon, but I picked up a nice one on the north side of an island west of portland in the middle(?) of the lake. Got another late on a whiute spinner bait and managed to come in with 5 fish. At 15.35 pounds we remarkably came in 7th and won big fish (4.95). Had we been able to cull one of the 2 dinks with even a modest 2.5 pounder we might have stolen it. I suggested pulling in 20 minutes early to avoid the log-jam...should have fished hard to the very end. It goes to show you....every ounce counts. Saw you on the water that day but I was concentrating on not flipping my boat . Take it easy, Pete. Steve

Pete,
I've actually only fished Champlain four or five times. Of those, some have been on the north end, and some have been on the south end, which is like fishing two completely different bodies of water. However, I do have a few spots up in the north end (where we are next week) so hopefully I'll do ok. If the water is high like it is around the Ottawa area, then I may throw a bit of largemouth hunting into my practice and see how they do. Either way, it'll be fun to get out there. Thanks for the good wishes.
Gary

Steve, I saw you running down the lake in the afternoon on Sunday. I was suppose to fish that tournament with Sheldon Hatch but family emergency when I got home from the Ottawa on Saturday forced me to withdraw from the tournament. Came home late morning on Sunday so I decided to get out and pre fish for Renegade. Found some new spots and some reproducing old spots. It's good to see that you are fishing with your son. I truly enjoyed watching him during the kids tourney in spring that we hold. He takes after his old man for sure when it comes to fishing. Glad to see that you were able to turn it around on Sunday. Yes, never leave the water sooner than you have to. You never know, that next cast might be the fish that brings in a bigger cheque. Especially on that body of water. Congratulations as well for leading the SEBO AOY race. I know it's early but 2 SEBO tournaments 2 cheques...well done!! Pete

Thanks, Pete:
Let's face it...if I wasn't sponging strategies and spots off of you guys (BAA fellas, you, Andy et al) I'd still be fishing with Heddon River Runts and my Zebco 33. I suspect the horseshoe will fall out of my *** any day now. I'm fishing Taylor Park with Mihorean on Sunday. Are you going? Talk to you,
Steve

Hey Steve, That's what BAA is all about. To introduce people like yourself to tournament fishing and have them move on to the bigger events. I'm glad to see something good come out of BAA. Keep it up. Pete
