Well, it's finally time to get out and actually be allowed to fish for some "real" fish.
Started out the pike/walleye opener on White Lake. Was on the water about 9:30AM and immediately caught a few small pike and an actual, honest-to-God walleye. You don't get many of those in White Lake, so it was a nice treat. It was a decent size too. The only place that was really producing any fish was down past Three Mile Bay...instead of going into Three Mile Bay, head way back into the bay on the right (at the mouth of Three Mile Bay). Lots of weed beds back there that are great for pike and especially bass once the season for them opens. Note the marked rock piles on the left as you get back into this bay. Those are good for a few fish and spots to keep in mind when bass season opens.
After that, it faded off and not much was biting for the rest of the morning, so I pulled out of White Lake and headed for Mississippi to fish the afternoon. Caught a bunch of smallmouth and largemouth, on the Mepps Aglia Long #3 (caught everything in both lakes on this) I was throwing for pike, and didn't really get much pike until I went up the river towards Innisville. I caught a handful of pike up close to the bridge in about 5 feet of water on the north shore. There were some small pike biting on the river near the Carleton Place Municipal launch as well. Dock talk at the launch was that it was kind of slow for walleye on Mississippi. I talked to a few guys who came in with some, but apparently they aren't still hanging in the river like some thought they'd be.
Overall it was a little slow, but I managed a couple eatin' sized pike and the walleye for the frying pan, and it was just great to get out and enjoy the spring weather. Next weekend I'm planning to head up to Muskrat Lake. If we get some more warm weather the pike should really be biting good up there and you can catch them until you are literally sick of it on that lake.
Cheers!
