Hi gang!
Update on archery deer hunting till have not shot anything waiting for the right moment. Today was one of those days that is permanently in my memories. At 1100am Wife and boys dropped me off on the side of the road as usual after kisses and hugs and the boys telling me to shoot a big buck. Off I went stand/ backpack on my back and bow in hand. Its about a 30min walk into the spot I had decided to hunt winds were South to South West. First time into this spot this year. The air was warm on the walk in so I only wore a T-shirt so when I get there put the rest of my hunting cloths on and set up the stand and climbed the tree. Just settled into the stand brought bow and backpack up to me in the stand on the rope I had attached to it.
What a beautiful day to be in the woods feeling hungry so ate the sandwich my wife made me and contemplating life. Next thing I know its 3pm and I hear a doe bleat. I look to my left to see a doe coming to me, oh there is a second one and she is big for a doe I check her with the binoculars and yes she is a doe. I let the first one walk past me, I have decided if the second one walks past me I will Harvest her for the freezer she will make some good eating. I lift my eyes just a bit and like mist out of the pines this Majestic Buck just appears, Not a big rack a solid 8 pointer I'm sure I'm under estimating the rack as the body on this buck is huge . I eslimate he is around 275lb? Big Buck. I switch my attention to him he is 25yards from my stand behind a large pine tree. I come to full draw and wait for him to come out from behind the pine tree. I can now see his head and shoulders and he stops! All of a sudden the doe runs and the buck bolts with her. I make doe bleats to try and stop the buck , not a hope with a doe in heat?
My day ends with the memory of my close encounter with the Majestic Buck.
