Hey Folks, As most of you know Tony Gascon passed away on Christmas Eve this past year. An avid angler, Tony loved bass fishing but 1 species he loved more than bass was crappie. Tony would travel all over the US searching for that elusive 2-3 lbs crappie. Tony also loved introducing kids to fishing. After talking with Tony's family we decided to put on the annual Tony Gason Memorial Kids Crappie Tournament. The tournament will take place on May 5th on the Rideau River at Taylor Park. There will be a $20.00 entry fee per boat and a $5.oo fee if you are fishing from shore. All proceeds will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We will have a limit of 3 fish per team. The winner will receive a special prize. After the tournament we will keep some of the fish and have a little fish fry. If you are interested in fishing, please send an e-mail to plarmand@bigrideautackle.com informing us how many children you will bring. We will do our best to make sure that there are prizes for every child that participates. We hope to see lots of kids there and it's also an excuse to get out fishing. See you all then, Pete

Hey Jeremy, You're right I did forget the time however, you got that covered for me. The time of the event this Saturday is 11:00 until 2:00. Remember folks, this is supposed to be for the kids. If you planning on attending, please post on here that you will be (if you already haven't) or send me an e-mail informing me of how many kids will be there. We want to make sure that every kid leaves there with some sort of prize. Thanks to all that have replied and I hope to see you all out. Pete

Hey Jeremy, That's great. It looks like we might have about 10-15 kids. Not bad for our first year. I'm sure Tony would be happy with what is happening. I'm sure that he will be watching tomorrow. We will have prizes for all the kids that have pre-registered and the weather is suppose to co operate. So it should be a great day. See you all tomorrow. Pete

Hey Folks, The annual Tony Gascon Memorial Kids Crappie Tournament was a success. There were 15 kids that participated in the inaugural event. Although lots of fish were caught the crappie were elusive with the exception of 2 being weighed in. The winners of the event were the kids but the top 2 anglers were Josh and Issaac Parker with .04 lbs and a close runner up was Jessie Reoch with .03 lbs. Each kid that participated received a tackle prize and the winners received a fishing rod and tackle pack (courtesy of the Reoch Family) The BBQ afterwards was great..it's a good thing that we brought hot dogs Thanks to everyone that donated the food and prizes. The Reoch Family, K & J's Otter Creek Restaurant and Big Rideau Tackle. $340 was donated to the Children's Wish Foundation on behalf of Tony Gascon. A special plaque of hand tied fishing flies (made by Jeremy Parker)was present to the Gascon family to show the appreciation of the angling community for all of the hard work and time that Tony did for fishing and in particular tournament fishing. Since there was a good turnout, we will be running this event again next year. We hope to see you all next year. Pete

Hi Pete:
Just a quick note to say thanks for your many contributions to a great event yesterday. The kids had a blast and they love the loot bags full of tackle. We'll be back next year!
Steve Cox
ps--Jeremy, that was a beautiful gift you made for the Gascon family.

Pete
I think we were all winners, it did my heart good to see all those smiling kids ;D To hear the squeals when they tried to hold the fish we had in the pale. You have to post some of those pictures , then everyone will be there next year. The boys were asking when the next event happens, I told them not till next year. They think you should make it into a Panfish series. The minds of kids.
I'm sure Tony would be proud ! This is truly what he was all about.
Have alittle story to share my eldest Joshua got a bag of Crappie tubes last year from Tony. I went to put one on the line and he asked me not too! His reasoning was that he wanted to keep them as they were the last thing Tony Gave him and he wants to remember this and have a little piece of Tony always with him. From the mouths of Babes
All my boys want to say Hi Pete!
Thanks for the great prizes we all had a great day! God Bless, The Parker Clan

Hey Jeremy, Josh's comments....now that's priceless. I will be putting pictures up real soon, just been extremely busy this week. I hope to have them up soon. Gary....we are going to try and do it again same time next year. So hopefully, you will be able to attend. We would like to see it become bigger and bigger as the years go by. It's to remember a great friend and a good man. Also, the rewards are amazing. The kids end up having a great time and the Children's Wish Foundation wins as well. Pete
