I went out after dinner tonight to see if they were running. Unfortunately, no crappie where I was fishing. I think that this cold front has a lot to do with the fact that they were not biting. I think that they were further out. I'll hopefully get out again some time this week and if I do, hopefully we'll get them then. Pete

Thanks for the update Pete,
I may head back down to the Big Rideau this wknd. If they haven't started in any of the usual spots around the Portland end of the lake I heard that they are running pretty good up at the Beveridges lock end.

Simon, There was another guy down there with me last night and he was mentioning that he had caught some at the culvert last weekend. No great numbers but some nice slabs he was saying. He was also saying that Berverly locks guys were catching them in buckets. Will have to go and check that out. I was going to go down to the town launch in Portland to see if there was anything near the docks but I never got around to it. I think that the cold front has moved them back out. They should be moving back in now anyday I think. If you do come down, let us know how you fair out. Pete

Gentlemen (sorry I mean Tony and Jeremy) I know this is about crappie but let's keep the crap talk away. We have kids on the board now. ;D Pete I might be up for some fishing on Sunday....depending on the weather. I'll bring my fishing princess with me. No Kim I meant Jessica but you can come too.

This warm weather has finally got the crappie running at the culvert. Not sure for how long because there has been alot of fishing pressure there the past 3-4 days. Pete

Got the boat out for the first run this year yesterday on the Ottawa. Tried a normally good spot (I think Jeremy might know where) but no crappie. Tried shallow and deep. Could see lots of minnows. Got three pike, one goodun'. Fun on a crappie jig.

Marc Let me know when they start to run I would love to get out . Maybe we could get together and have a fish for crappie. There are so many spots in Buckham's Bay. Walleye will be starting this week end. Do you get many off the sand flats just around the corner from Buckham's. Seem to remember taking a few on slip bobber's at about 4 feet in the early season just before the rice comes up. Also at the mouth of Constance Bay off the shoal on the right when you are facing it. Buddy of mine lost his lower unit on this shoal in the fall. I told him I sometimes used to pull my boat up on this shoal when I was duck hunting for diver duck. Jeremy
