I went to go look at the culvert last night and they are not running there yet. The water is warming up though each and everyday. I suspect that with this warm weather they should be arriving any day now. When they do...I'll be waiting.. ;D I'm still hoping to go and try along the Rideau River on Sunday. I will have a full report afterwards. Pete

Jeremy, I think that they are running although I haven't been able to get out there yet. However, I see trucks parked on the side of the road most nights when I get home. So, no I'm not holding out. This weekend is pretty busy for us with Jessica and her starting soccer and finishing up with skating. I'll call you if we can get out. I know that Tony would like to get out as well if possible. Trailered the boat down to the Big Rideau yesterday to try and find some crappies. Fished the Briton Bay culvert with no luck but the bay is full of sunfish so the crappies can't be too far behind. Moved out to the edge further out in the bay too see if they were staging to head in. Jigged a small sthingy along the weed edge in 14 ft of water when I got a good hit and landed a 5lb laker that I quickly released. I've heard that they have been catcheing them shallow all winter while fishing for perch out in front of Portland. The population seems to be coming back with a vengance. It would be nice for them to open up agin for ice fishing...that used to be a lot of fun but I doubt we will see that happen. Anyway I hope the crappies soon start on the Big Rideau.

Hi gang! Nice to see someone new on the board welcome Simon What a wet evening of fishing, funny thing though not a lot of people out Slow evening on the Crappie in my area only caught about 65 in about 3hrs. There were some real quality ones for the Rideau. I let the biggest go as they have not spawned yet and you could tell they were so fat and the eggs were loose as some actually came out as you touched them. Talk about a light bit some times you would check your line and they would be there Other than the cold was a lot of fun! Jeremy

Hey Simon, I haven't been able to get out to the culvert yet but there is usually a truck or car parked off the side of the road when I come home from work. I will have to give it a try sometime this week. If they start running, I will let you know. Howver, this little cold front that has come in and it doesn't seem like it's going to leave until Tuesday will put a stop to any pre-spawn migration from the deep to the backs of any bays for spawning. At least on here (Big Rideau) anyways. Jeremy, I take it that you went back to the same place as we were last week?? We were actually down by that neck of the woods yesterday and I mentioned to Kim that it's too bad that we didn't bring the rods. We will have to get soon again. Grumpy, send me those pictures and we can post them on here so that everyone gets angry We should try and arrange a road trip some day and go down there for the weekend and get those 2-3 lbs crappie. I will try again once the weather passed and see what happens. At least out here on the Big Rideau anyways. Pete
